Why University Is Harder With ADHD

University demands exactly the skills that ADHD makes hardest: self-directed study, long-term planning, meeting deadlines without someone chasing you, and managing your own time. Research by DuPaul et al. (2009) found that students with ADHD have significantly lower GPAs and higher dropout rates than their neurotypical peers.

But it does not have to be that way. With the right support, students with ADHD can absolutely thrive. My mentoring gives you practical strategies and accountability that work with your ADHD brain, not against it. Read more about ADHD at university and DSA funding for ADHD.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from university students looking for ADHD support.

Can my ADHD mentoring be funded through DSA?

Yes, in many cases. If you have a formal ADHD diagnosis and receive Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA), your university may fund specialist mentoring sessions as part of your support package. Contact your university disability service or Student Finance to check your eligibility. I work with students funded through DSA across the UK.

Do I need an ADHD diagnosis to access student mentoring?

No. You do not need a formal diagnosis to work with me. Many students come to me while they are on an NHS waiting list, going through private assessment, or simply recognising ADHD traits for the first time at university. My mentoring is open to any student experiencing executive function challenges.

What do ADHD mentoring sessions for students cover?

Sessions are tailored to your specific needs. Common areas include deadline management and assignment planning, revision strategies, managing procrastination, building routines that work around lectures, navigating university systems and accessing support, and managing the social and emotional side of student life with ADHD.

How is ADHD mentoring different from academic tutoring?

ADHD mentoring focuses on the executive function skills that underpin academic success, things like planning, prioritisation, time management, task initiation, and emotional regulation. I do not teach subject content, but I help you develop the strategies you need to engage with your course material effectively.

How much does ADHD mentoring for students cost?

Single sessions are £125 for 60 minutes. I also offer bundles: 3 sessions for £320 (save 15%) or 5 sessions for £470 (save 25%). If you receive DSA funding, your sessions may be fully covered. Start with a free 15-minute discovery call to discuss your options.
