AuDHD Mentor: Support for When ADHD and Autism Overlap
Having both ADHD and autism means your brain is pulled in different directions at once. Standard ADHD strategies do not always fit. You need support that understands the whole picture.
What It Means to Be AuDHD
If you are AuDHD, you already know this: the advice that works for “just ADHD” or “just autism” often does not quite fit. That is because ADHD and autism create a unique set of internal contradictions that can be genuinely exhausting to navigate.
Your ADHD might crave novelty and spontaneity while your autistic side needs routine and predictability. Your ADHD might push you towards social situations while your autism leaves you drained by them. You might hyperfocus with ADHD intensity but need autistic-level detail and precision to feel satisfied with your work.
These internal tug-of-wars are real, and they are tiring. Many AuDHD adults describe feeling like they are constantly negotiating between two different sets of needs. Add masking on top of that, and it is no wonder burnout is so common.
The good news? When you understand how your ADHD and autism interact, you can stop fighting against yourself and start building strategies that actually work. That is what AuDHD mentoring is about.
How AuDHD Mentoring Is Different
Most ADHD coaching and mentoring assumes a neurotypical baseline with ADHD layered on top. But if you are also autistic, that baseline does not apply. Strategies that rely on social motivation, flexible thinking, or sensory tolerance might not work for you, and that is not because you are doing it wrong.
In AuDHD mentoring, I hold both parts of your neurology in mind. We do not try to “fix” your autism to solve your ADHD, or vice versa. Instead, we find the overlap where both parts of your brain can be satisfied.
That might mean building routines that have enough structure for your autistic needs but enough flexibility for your ADHD. It might mean finding sensory regulation strategies that address both overwhelm and under-stimulation. It might mean figuring out social strategies that do not rely on masking.
I take a neurodiversity-affirming approach, which means I do not see your AuDHD as something to be fixed. I see it as a different operating system that needs its own user manual. We write that manual together.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about AuDHD mentoring and support.
What is AuDHD?
AuDHD is a term used by the neurodivergent community to describe the experience of having both ADHD and autism. It is not a clinical diagnosis in itself, but a way of recognising that these two conditions frequently co-occur and interact with each other in complex ways. Research suggests that around 50-70% of autistic people also meet the criteria for ADHD.
How is AuDHD mentoring different from ADHD mentoring?
AuDHD mentoring takes into account the ways autism and ADHD can pull you in opposite directions. Standard ADHD strategies sometimes clash with autistic needs. For example, novelty-seeking ADHD strategies might conflict with an autistic preference for routine. Mentoring for AuDHD people needs to hold both parts of your neurology in mind and find approaches that work for the whole you, not just one part.
Do I need both an autism and ADHD diagnosis?
No. You do not need any formal diagnosis to work with me. If you identify as AuDHD, suspect you might be both autistic and ADHD, or have one diagnosis and suspect the other, mentoring is available to you. We work with your lived experience, not just what is written on a piece of paper.
Can you help with sensory challenges?
Yes. While I am not an occupational therapist, many of the practical strategies we work on in mentoring address sensory overwhelm and sensory-seeking behaviour. We can look at how to manage your sensory environment at home and work, build in sensory regulation strategies, and figure out how to communicate your sensory needs to others.
Is AuDHD mentoring available online?
Yes, all sessions are available online via video call, which works well for many AuDHD clients who prefer the comfort and sensory safety of their own environment. You can have your camera on or off, whatever feels most comfortable for you.
How do conflicting needs in AuDHD get managed?
This is one of the biggest challenges of being AuDHD, and it is a core focus of our work together. Your ADHD might crave novelty while your autism craves routine. Your ADHD might push you to be spontaneous while your autism needs predictability. We work on finding the middle ground, building systems that honour both sets of needs rather than forcing you to pick one over the other.
