ADHD Assessment Preparation

A guided session to help you reflect on your experiences and describe your symptoms clearly, so you walk into your assessment feeling prepared, not panicked.

NHS, Right to Choose, or private 2 hours / £230

“What If I Blank and Forget Everything?”

This is the single most common thing people say to me before their ADHD assessment. You have waited months, sometimes years, on a waiting list. The day is finally approaching and your brain is doing what ADHD brains do best: catastrophising.

You are worried you will not seem “ADHD enough.” You are worried you will accidentally come across as too put-together because you have spent years masking. You are worried your mind will go completely blank when they ask about your childhood.

That is exactly what this session is for. We work through the kinds of questions assessors ask, and I help you uncover the examples that genuinely reflect your experience.

Work through common assessment questions together
Identify childhood examples you may have forgotten
Recognise symptoms you have normalised or masked
Prepare a timeline of your ADHD experiences
Understand what the assessor is looking for
Feel calm and confident instead of panicked

What Assessors Typically Ask About

These are the areas we prepare for together, so nothing catches you off guard.

Childhood Behaviour

School reports, friendships, home life, and early signs. Many people struggle to remember these clearly, especially without a parent to ask.

Education & Academic History

Concentration in class, homework struggles, exam performance, and patterns like strong starts followed by fading interest.

Work & Career

Job changes, difficulty with deadlines, time management, conflicts with colleagues, and patterns of underachievement or burnout.

Daily Life & Executive Function

Routines, organisation, household tasks, cooking, cleaning, finances, and all the small things that feel impossibly hard with ADHD.

Relationships & Social Life

Communication difficulties, emotional reactions, rejection sensitivity, and the impact on friendships and romantic relationships.

Emotional Regulation & Mental Health

Mood swings, frustration, impulsivity, anxiety, and how ADHD has affected your mental health over the years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about assessment preparation sessions.

What do you actually do in the preparation session?

I sit with you and help you reflect on your genuine ADHD experiences across childhood, education, work, and daily life. We work through the types of questions assessors commonly ask, so you feel prepared and confident rather than blanking on the day. I do not coach you on what to say. I help you find the words for what is already true.

Is this for NHS or private assessments?

Both. Whether you are being assessed through the NHS, Right to Choose, or a private provider like Psychiatry-UK or Clinical Partners, the core questions are similar. I tailor the session to your specific pathway.

Will this guarantee I get diagnosed?

No. An ADHD assessment is a clinical decision made by a qualified professional based on your symptoms, history, and their clinical judgement. My role is to help you describe your experiences clearly so the assessor gets an accurate picture. If you do not have ADHD, preparation will not change that, and it should not.

I am worried I will not seem ADHD enough. Can you help?

This is incredibly common, especially for people who have spent years masking. Many of my clients underplay their difficulties because they have normalised them. The session helps you recognise and articulate the impact ADHD actually has on your life, rather than the version you have been performing for everyone else.

Do I need to have my assessment booked already?

Ideally yes, so we can tailor the session to your specific provider and timeline. But if you are on a waiting list and want to start preparing early, that works too. The earlier you gather your thoughts, the less stressful the assessment feels when it arrives.

Can someone else join the session, like a partner or parent?

Yes. Many assessments ask for collateral information from someone who knew you as a child. Having a parent or long-term partner join part of the session can be very helpful for identifying childhood examples you may not remember clearly.
