Two things every book in the range does.
The reverse side is the useful one
Colouring books print single sided so ink does not bleed through, and everyone else leaves that page blank. Facing each design is its five colours already chosen and named, one thing I actually say in sessions, and a line giving you permission to stop.
Effort, counted in decisions
A level one page is not a page for beginners. It is the page for a day when choosing is the hard part.
- 5 min. Almost no choices. Big shapes, lots of air.
- 10 min. A clear rhythm. You can stop mid row.
- 15 min. Enough going on to hold your attention.
- 25 min. A proper sit down page.
- 40 min. For an evening when you have the capacity.
Questions
Does colouring help with ADHD?
Not as a treatment, and I will not sell it to you as one. There is one good randomised trial of colouring in people waiting in an emergency department, and it found a meaningful drop in anxiety scores over two hours against a control. That is a study of anxiety in people who are waiting, and it is not a study of ADHD. What these books offer is something to do with your hands that has a defined end, does not need charging, and does not open an app.
What makes these different from the colouring books on Amazon?
Two things. Every page carries an effort level and a time before you start it, so you can pick a page that matches today rather than starting at the front and stalling. And the reverse of every design, which every other colouring book leaves blank, carries five colours already chosen for you, a practical ADHD tip that belongs to that page, and a line giving you permission to stop.
What does the effort level actually mean?
It counts decisions, not detail. A level one page has big shapes and lots of air, so there is very little to choose. That is not a page for beginners, it is the page for a day when choosing is the hard part. A level five page has plenty going on and is there for an evening when you have the capacity for it.
Do I get the PDF if I buy the printed book?
Yes, at no extra cost. People lose books, want to redo a page, or want to print one page to take to an appointment, and none of that should mean buying it twice.
Are these a replacement for ADHD mentoring or treatment?
No. They are books for calm and for filling time you cannot use for anything else. The tips in them are real and they come out of my mentoring practice, but a book cannot ask you a follow up question. If you want to work on the things that are actually getting in the way, that is what mentoring is for, and the first call is free.
A book is a good hour. Mentoring is the rest of it.
The tips on the guide pages come out of real sessions. If they land, the sessions themselves go a great deal further, because a book cannot ask you a follow up question. The first call is free.
